12/29/2014 Monday (11:59 PM Guangzhou Time same day, 7:59 AM Seattle
Time) We have received an update from Eva (our outstanding Guangzhou guide)
about our WCE Softball delegation's first day in Guangzhou. "Today was a full,
happy and exciting day! In the morning, we went to the Chen Clan Academy, which
is also the Folk Art Museum. The sculptures and carvings there are really vivid
and we learned a lot about the architecture and culture. Then, we went to the
Guangxiao Temple. For most of us, this is the first Buddhist temple we have
been in. The temple is great and we gain some interesting knowledge there. For
lunch, we've tried our first Chinese meal and it is special - Hot Pot! For our
Hot Pot lunches we each put all the ingredients in our own pot and cooked them
with the soup. It was really delicious and it's an interesting way to eat. In
the afternoon, we went to the Guangzhou Sports Training and Technical College.
We visited the campus and watched the training of the Chinese students and
athletes. They really work hard and they impressed us a lot! We also
participated in pingpong and basketball and the friendship matches went very
well. We had a buffet dinner at the college and the food was good, as well as
the talk with future champions. The group also helped Maddie celebrate her
16th birthday. Tomorrow, we will visit Guangzhou No.2 Kindergarten and have
our first Softball game. We are looking forward to it!"
We have also received the following pictures from Eva:
12/30/14 Tuesday (12:00 PM Guangzhou Time and 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
We have received two emails from China. Jessica (our wonderful tour manager)
sent Softball photos from the games and commented "You have two very good
teams. Both of the WCE Teams won their games today."
Eva (our wonderful guide) also sent an update. "We had a wonderful day today
and we were communicating with the local Softball players and kids all day. It
is a really good way to learn more about China and Chinese culture. In the
morning, we went to the Guangzhou No. 2 Kindergarten. The kids are so cute and
we really had a good time having class together with them. In the afternoon,
we played Softball with the local students. It was really fun and we all
enjoyed ourselves! After the game, we have already made some new friends. For
dinner, we tried local food and it was delicious. Tomorrow, we will have more
games with the local Softball players!"
12/31/2014 Wednesday (12:00 PM Guangzhou Time and 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Eva (our great guide in Guangzhou) has sent another update. "We had another
full and happy day today. In the morning, we went to the Olympic Training
Center where the Asian Games are held to play softball with local teams. The
weather was nice, the facilities are nice and most importantly, the players are
nice! We had a great time together. After the games, we communicated and
exchanged with the local players and we all treasured the time together. For
dinner, we had dim-sum, they are so good looking and tasty. We all love them!
After dinner, we went to visit Lichi Bay Park, the scenery there is splendid.
Tomorrow we will travel with the local students all day!"
Jessica (our wonderful tour manager) also sent an update on the Softball
competition. "There were very good games today against the Guangdong team even
though both WCE teams lost. The head coach of the Guangdong team Ms. Zhang (she
is the one in the red shirt) is the coach of the pitcher of our national team!
Pictures and a wonderful friendship exchange made everyone feel like stars!
Everyone had fun today!"
1/1/2015 Thursday (12:00 PM Guangzhou Time and 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Eva (our excellent guide in Guangzhou) has sent us another daily update. "We've
had an unforgettable day today touring with the local students all day long. We
talked a lot and communicated very well. We all became good friends before we
had to say goodbye. In the morning we went to Haixinsha Square which was built
as the opening ceremony pavilion of the 16th Asian Games. We saw lots of modern
building there, like the third tallest in the world — the new Guangzhou
TV Tower, the new library, the new Music Hall, etc. Then we went to the
Guangdong Museum. It is very large and full of relics from Guangdong Province.
This was a really good chance for everyone to learn more about the history, the
environment and the culture here. For lunch we had Cantonese food with the
local students. It was a delicious meal at the Lianxianglou Restaurant. The
Cantonese dishes were really impressive. Then we went shopping together! We
went to the Up-and-Down Nine Street pedestrian street where the Chinese
students helped us shop. It was interesting and fun! After that we went to
visit the Five Ram Statue and the Guangzhou Museum together. We learned even
more about Guangzhou visiting these sights. After a wonderful day together it
was time to say goodbye to our local friends who we will miss very much! On our
last evening in Guangzhou our delegation got dressed up and went on an evening
dinner cruise on the Pearl River. Tomorrow we will have a Tai Chi lesson in the
morning and then fly to Beijing!"
1/2/2015 Friday (12:00 PM Beijing Time and 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Eva (our outstanding Guangzhou guide) has traveled with the Softball Delegation
to Beijing and sent us the following daily update. "In the morning we had a
Tai Chi lesson from Master Chan who is really good at Tai Chi. All the
movements and skills are so cool and everybody liked it very much. After a
big breakfast, we left Guangzhou and headed for China's capital, Beijing. The
flight to Beijing was smooth and we got to Beijing safe and sound. For our
first dinner in Beijing, we had the famous Peking Duck for supper! It was so
delicious and we all ate a lot. The other dishes served together with the duck
were also very good. We had a colorful day today! Tomorrow, we will go to
Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. We are looking forward to it."
1/3/2015 Saturday (12:00 PM Beijing Time and 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Eva, our excellent guide from Guangzhou who is with the Softball Delegation in
Beijing, has sent us a daily update from the days activities. "We had a
wonderful full day today. Even though it was very cold, everybody enjoyed the
day very much. In the morning we went to one of the largest squares in the
world, Tiananmen Square. The buildings there are all grand and served as the
main entrance to the Imperial City. After that we toured the Forbidden City. It
is the largest and most well preserved imperial residence in China today. It is
listed as head of the world's top five palaces! The Forbidden City was built
beginning in 1406 and it took 14 years to build. After lunch we went to see the
Temple of Heaven. In the evening we enjoyed a Chinese Acrobatics Show. It was
so amazing! All the activities they perform are challenging and exciting for
people to watch. After the Chinese Acrobatics Show we paid a visit to the
Bird's Nest and the Water Cube, built for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The lights
were all on and it was just beautiful! Tomorrow we will go to the Great Wall.
It will be another full day for us."
1/4/2015 Sunday (12:00 PM Beijing Time and 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Eva, our outstanding guide, has once again sent as an update. "Today, we had a
good and full day! We went to the Great Wall in the morning. We were very
lucky because today was sunny and the sky was blue all the time. As one of the
Eight Wonders in the world, the Great Wall of China has become the symbol of
the Chinese nation and its culture. The Great Wall is very steep and hard to
climb but we all try our best to get to where we can get. We had a Chinese
lunch again and it was delicious as always. In the afternoon we visited the
Walk of the Spirits of the Ming Tombs. The architecture there is great and
grand. We had a good time there and we learned more history and stories about
the past dynasties. Then came another highlight when we went to the silk market
for shopping! We looked for what we are interested in and had fun bargaining
with salesmen. In the evening we had a Pizza Buffet dinner. We all enjoyed
ourselves! Tomorrow, we will go to see the Summer Palace, and then it will be
time for us to head back home."

1/5/2015 Monday (11:00 PM Beijing Time and 7:00 AM Seattle Time)
Eva (our wonderful guide from Guangzhou who traveled with the group to Beijing)
has sent us our final update of the group's activities in Beijing before they
headed home. "We had a wonderful and nice day today! In the morning, we visited
the Summer Palace. It is so large and the architecture is so awesome that we
just didn't want to leave! We met a retired man there who was an artist and
made water paintings. This was beside Kunming Lake which is next to the Summer
Palace. He was really amazing and he drew a picture of Phoebe, KT's daughter,
on the ground for us. We also paid a visit to a local supermarket and took a
look at the local people's way of living. That was very interesting. By now, we
are already in the plane. We have had a wonderful visit to China and now we
will be back home soon!"
