12/28/2015 Monday (11:59 PM Guangzhou Time same day 7:59 AM Seattle Time)
We have received an update from Peter (our outstanding Guangzhou guide) about
our WCE Softball delegation's first day in Guangzhou. "Today was a full, happy
and exciting day! In the morning, we went to the Chen Clan Academy, which is
also the Folk Art Museum. The sculptures and carvings there are really vivid
and we learned a lot about the architecture culture. We also enjoyed a lion
dancing show there and it was a great experience. Then, we went to the
Guangxiao Temple. For most of us, this is the first Buddhist temple we've been
in. The temple is great and the knowledge we get there is very interesting.
For lunch, we've tried our first Chinese meal and it was really delicious and
it was an interesting way to eat with chopsticks. In the afternoon, we went to
the Guangzhou Sports Training and Technical College. We visited the campus and
watched the training of the Chinese students and athletes. They really work
hard and impressed us a lot. We also participated in ping pong and the
friendship match went on well as the friendship will go on. We had a buffet
dinner at the college and the food was good, as well as the talk with future
champions. Tomorrow, we will visit Guangzhou No.2 Kindergarten and have our
first softball game. We are looking forward to it!"
We also received the following pictures from Peter:
12/29/2015 Tuesday (12:00 PM Guangzhou Time, 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Our wonderful guide Peter has updated us on the day's activities. "We had a
wonderful day today and we were communicating with the local Softball players
and kids all day. That's a really good way to learn more about China and
Chinese culture. In the morning, we went to the Guangzhou No.2 Kindergarten.
The kids were so cute and we really had a good time having class and playing
games together with them! When it was time to leave, it was really hard to say
goodbye to all the lovely kids there. We then went to Dr. Sun Yat-sen's
Memorial Hall. We learned more about the founding father of modern China and
the history at that time. The architecture there was just great. In the
afternoon, we played a Softball game against the Nanfang Team. It was really
fun and we all enjoyed ourselves! After the game, we felt we had made some
friends in China! For dinner, we've tried Dim-Sum. It is served in small but
nice portions and we tried many different kinds of Dim-Sum. It is something
you must try in China! Then we went to enjoy the beautiful evening view
in Lichi Bay Park. Tomorrow, we will tour with local students!"
12/30/2015 Wednesday (12:00 PM Guangzhou Time, same day 8:00 AM Seattle Time)

exciting day! In the morning, we learned Tai Chi! We followed the master to do
lots of movements and enjoy the knowledge and energy in the Tai Chi class.
Then we went to Haixinsha Square (The Opening Ceremony Pavilion of the 16th
Asian Games). We saw lots of modern buildings there, like the third tallest
building in the world - the new Guangzhou TV Tower, the new library, the new
Music Hall and so on. Then we went to the Guangdong Museum. It is very large
and full of relics from Guangdong Province. This was a really good chance for
our group to learn more about the history, environment, and the culture here.
For lunch, we had Cantonese food which was really delicious. In the afternoon,
we went to Xiguan Foreign Language School for a visit. We toured around the
campus with the Chinese students and then we traveled together to visit the
Five Ram Statue and the Guangzhou Museum. We learned even more about Guangzhou
from these visits. Then we went shopping! We went to the Up-and-Down Nine
Pedestrian Street and shopped with the Chinese students' help. It is
interesting and great fun! For dinner, we had another delicious meal at
Lianxianglou Restaurant. The Cantonese dishes were really impressive. We
communicated, exchanged, and we became friends. Then we had to say goodbye to
our new Chinese friends and we already begin to miss them! We want to be sure
to stay in touch! Tomorrow, we will play two softball games! We can't help
thinking about it!"

are many things to see. The weather here is great and the history here is long
and endless. In the afternoon, we visited the Summer Palace. It is so large
and the architecture is so awesome that we just don't want to leave. The
buildings inside are really Chinese style and the scenery is very beautiful.
In the evening, we tried our first Beijing dinner. It was good and had more
flavor. We all liked it. Last but not least, today was Kellie's birthday. We
celebrated her birthday in Beijing, China and it was really special! We have
had a long and colorful day today! Tomorrow, we will go to see the Forbidden
City! Can't wait!"
1/2/2016 Saturday (12:00 PM Guangzhou Time, same day 8:00 AM Seattle Time)
Peter sent us the following update from the day's activities: "We had a really
wonderful and full day today. In the morning, the weather was nice and cool
and we went to the largest square in the world - Tian An Men Square. The
buildings there are all grand and we finally see what the "heart of China"
looks like. All the architecture there is worth seeing and enjoying and we
know for sure what "people mountain people sea" means. We also visited the
World Cultural Heritage Site - The Forbidden City. This is really a royal
trip! It was educational and enjoyable to see the place where emperors lived.
The buildings inside are really impressive. In the afternoon, we went to
Temple of Heaven. It's was another Chinese culture experience for us. The
buildings inside are really Chinese style and the scenery is so beautiful. In

to enjoy. We all loved it! We also had a special dinner today. We had the
famous Peking Duck for supper! It was so, so delicious and we all eat a lot.
The other dishes served with it were also very good. We have had a long and
colorful day today! Tomorrow, we will conquer the Great Wall! We are really
excited about it!"
1/3/2016 Sunday (12:30 PM Guangzhou Time, next day 8:30 AM Seattle Time)
Peter has sent us our daily update. "We have had a wonderful and nice day
today! We went to the Great Wall in the morning. Chairman Mao said "He who
never climbs the Great Wall can't be called as a true hero", and we are heroes
today! The Great Wall is very steep and hard to climb but we all try our best
to get to where we can get. We've conquered the Great Wall! This is a really
interesting and healthy trip to visit the Great Wall. In the afternoon, we
visited the Walk of the Spirits of the Ming Tomb. The architecture there is
great and grand. We had a good time there and we learned more history and
stories about the past dynasties. Then came another highlight. We went to the
silk street market for shopping. We looked for what we are interested in and
bargained with salesmen. We really found some cool things there and we really
liked the experience there. Tomorrow, we will pay a visit to the Bird's Nest
