Guangzhou High School Students Study at the University of Washington (FIUTS Program) in July 2011
A Delegation of Guangzhou High School Students will study at the University of Washington in their FIUTS Program (The Foundation of International Understanding Through Students) in Seattle in July 09th – 23rd,
2011. Chen Lan (A Teacher from Guangzhou Yucai High School) and Eva Zhang (Sports United Guangzhou, China) are bringing 10 High School Students to study, home stay, and tour Seattle’s most important sites (Boeing,
Microsoft, Space Needle, etc.). This visit will further enhance the cooperation between the Students in Washington State and the Students in Guangzhou, China. We will post updates and pictures during the Guangzhou
High School Students visit to Seattle.
7/08/2011 Friday (San Francisco) We have spoken with Mr. Meng (their San Francisco Tour Guide) and he has confirmed that our Guangzhou Student Delegation has arrived safely in San Francisco. We will greet them at Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle tomorrow when
they arrive at noon!
7/09/2011 Saturday (Seattle) Our 12 Member Guangzhou Student Delegation led by Chen Lan (A Teacher from Guangzhou Yucai High School) and Eva Zhang (Sports United Guangzhou, China) arrived safely in Seattle today.
The delegation took a Charter Bus to the University of Washington for lunch and had an orientation by the FIUTS (The Foundation of International Understanding Through Students) Staff. This orientation prepared the
Student for their upcoming English Classes (presented by Lauren Feng their English Teacher), activities (presented by Isa Mise), safety (presented by Tim), and Home Stays (presented by Alison Kilkenny). After
a short campus tour the Students met their Home Stay Families and departed for their weekend activities. Era Schrepfer, Executive Director of FIUTS, oversaw all presentations and activities. Pictures are posted below!
7/11/2011 Monday (Seattle) We met the Students at Haggett Hall on the University of Washington Campus as they returned from their Home Stay weekend. Each Student informed me that they had a wonderful Home Stay and
benefitted greatly from this experience. Today they are checking into Haggett Hall Dormitory (http://www.hfs.washington.edu/housing/Default.aspx?id=262) where they will live for the next two weeks. In the picture
below they are playing table soccer!
7/12/2011 Tuesday (Seattle) We spoke with Eva Zhang (excellent China Student Trip Travel Guide) and she informed us that the Students absolutely love their English Class and English Teacher Mrs. Feng. Yesterday they were
able to sightsee in the afternoon visiting downtown Seattle. Each day starts with a 3 hour English Class followed by afternoon activities. Tomorrow they will visit the Seattle Center and take a ride up the Space Needle.
7/15/2011 Friday (Seattle) We met all of the Students after their first American Baseball Game. They had a great week and were meeting their Host Families for their second weekend with Home Stays. All of the Students were very excited!
We look forward to seeing them Monday morning and hearing about their wonderful adventures!
7/17/2011 Sunday (Seattle) WCE Hosted a Reception for Eva Zhang who has traveled with numerous WCE Delegations visiting Guangzhou, Xi'an, and Beijing!
7/18/2011 Monday (Seattle) We met all of the Students after they returned from another succesful Home Stay Weekend. All of the Students were very happy to share their exciting Home Stay Experiencs with each other.
7/21/2011 Thursday (Seattle) Today after their final English Class, which included an Oral Presentation, our Students saw the Harry Potter Moive before it opens in China!
7/22/2011 Friday (Seattle) Today our Students graduated from their University of Washington FIUTS Program. In the evening our Students and Host Families enjoyed a barbeque at Woodland Park. Our Students sang a few songs for their Hosts and presented gifts!
7/23/2011 Saturday (Seattle) Early this morning our Students departed from Seattle (after a life impacting visit) and have arrived safely in LA!

Guangzhou High School Students visit Seattle in August 2010
A Delegation of Guangzhou High School Students will visit Seattle in August 05th – 10th, 2010. Principal Huang Haiyan (Hengfu High School Guangzhou, China) and Michael Xiao (Sports United Guangzhou,
China) will lead this first ever China Student Visit to Seattle hosted by WCE. The Chinese Students will tour Seattle, visit the University of Washington (hosted by CSSA), home stay with Seattle
Area Students who have traveled to Guangzhou, and enjoy a Boeing Tour. This visit will further enhance the cooperation between the Students in Washington State and the Students in Guangzhou, China.
We will post updates and pictures during the Guangzhou High School Students visit to Seattle.
8/05/2010 Thursday (Seattle) Our 9 Member Guangzhou Student Delegation led by Principal Huang and assisted by Xiao Yue (Michael) arrived safely in Seattle today. After clearing US Customs we took our
delegation to the University of Washington (www.washington.edu/) where FIUTS . (www.fiuts.washington.edu) Executive Director Era Schrepfer took the Students on an extensive UW Tour. For the UW Tour we
were joined by CSSA (http://students.washington.edu/cssa/) Officer Gulian Weng and several other local Chinese Students. We departed from the UW and checked into the Hampton Inn & Suites Seattle-North/Lynnwood
(19324 Alderwood Mall Parkway, Lynnwood, Washington 98036; Phone: (425) 771-1888 / (877) 771-8555, Fax: (425) 771-1412; Web Site: http://www.hamptonseattlenorth.com/). Tonight we enjoyed a Chinese Buffet Dinner
and a quick walking tour in the local area. We have posted pictures below!
8/06/2010 Friday (Seattle) After a well deserved night of rest, today we toured Seattle. We first visited the Seattle Center to take a ride up to the Observation Deck of the Space Needle Tour (http://www.spaceneedle.com/).
Although it was a cloudy day the Space Needle always offers an excellent view of the city. Our next stop was the Pacific Science Center (http://www.pacsci.org/) where there are many interactive sites allowing you a hands on
experience. Lunch was at the Center House. In the afternoon our bus travelled throught Seattle to visit China Town, Safeco Field (Baseball), Seahawk Stadium (American Football), The Seattle Waterfront, and the Ballard Locks
(http://www.cityofseattle.net/tour/locks.htm). It was a very exciting day. When we returned to our hotel, we were met by our Host Families who have taken the Students to their Homes. Their weekend will be an exciting
stay with their Host Families! We have posted another picture below!
8/07/2010 Saturday (Seattle) Our Students are very happy in their Home Stays!! Principal Huang and Xiao Yue visited Shorecrest High School (hosted by Educators Vince Santo-Pietro and Lisa Chen as well as Students Melody and
Alex Chang). We have posted a picture below. Enjoyed lunch with Telva Richburg (WCE Board Member) and Olympic Coach Orin Richburg. They completed their day with hours of shopping at the Seattle Premium Outlet Stores!
8/08/2010 Sunday (Seattle) Our Students are very happy in their Home Stays Day #2!! Principal Huang and Xiao Yue rode the Duck, visited the Pike Place Famer’s Market, and toured the Northwest Soccer Camp. They completed their
day by visiting with friends of Michael who traveled to the Hampton Inn Lynnwood to see Michael on his first visit to Seattle!
8/09/2010 Monday (Seattle) Our Students returned overjoyed from their Home Stay Experience only wishing that they could spend a few more days with their Home Stay Family! In the morning our delegation took the Boeing Tour which
was educational and fascinating. After lunch we visited Microsoft and returned to the Hampton Inn. Tonight our Students are finishing up their shopping and preparing for their early morning departure to LA! We have posted a couple of pictures!
8/10/2010 Tuesday (Seattle/LA) Early this morning our Students flew from Seattle to Los Angeles to spend two days sightseeing before returning to Guangzhou. Each Delegation Member Thanked Everyone (WCE & Host Families) for their
wonderful visit to Seattle. We hope to visit with them again in Guangzhou or in Seattle in the near future! WCE also Thanks our Host Families as well as the Educators and Students who toured our Delegation on the UW Campus and at
Shorecrest High School! You have truly impacted the lives of the Guangzhou High School Students! We have received some pictures from Michael in LA. They visited UCLA, The Getty Museum, and the beach! We have posted the pictures below!
8/11/2010 Wednesday (LA) We spoke with Michael Xiao late in the evening for an update on their day in LA. Today the China Students toured Universal Studios, visited the Kodak Theatre, and walked along Sunset Boulevard. It was an enjoyable
ending to their visit to the US. After returning to their hotel the China Delegation packed for an early morning departure for China. Once again we have posted pictures from Michael below!

Coach Xu (Peizheng Middle School) visits Seattle in August 2009
Coach Xu Jianying (Peizheng Middle School) is participating (Umpire) in the Senior Softball Little League World Series in Sussex County Delaware August 9th – 15th, 2009. We
have posted some picture of Coach Xu at the World Series. On August 15th Coach Xu will fly to Seattle for a 5 day visit. Coach KT Allyn (Marysville-Pilchuck HS) is coordinating
her visit including a Seattle Tour (DuckRide), tour of Edgemoor Tennis Club Bellevue, and preparations for her Softball Team to visit Seattle in 2010. We are looking forward to Coach Xu’s
visit to Seattle.

Guangzhou Golfer Feng Shan Shan completes first year on the LPGA Tour
December '08 - 18 year old Shanshan Feng (pictured below) from Guangzhou, China is completing her rookie season on the LPGA Tour. Shanshan is the first player from China to
qualify and compete on the LPGA Tour. She has had 5 Top Ten Finishes during the second half of her rookie season including a second place finish at the Bell Micro LPGA Classic.
Although only a rookie Shanshan ranks 12th on the LPGA Tour in Driving Distance (261.1 average), 19th (tied) on the LPGA Tour with 6 eagles, 28th (tied) on the LPGA Tour with
5 Top 10 Finishes, and 36th on the LPGA Tour earning $472,758.00. Shanshan’s Dad, Feng Xiong, was able to travel to North America in August and watch Shanshan play in the
Canadian Open Golf Tournament and the Safeway Classic (Portland, Ore). Each week only gets more exciting for Shanshan. We will continue to follow her progress.
October '07 - 18 year old Golf prodigy Feng Shanshan (pictured below) from Guangzhou, China tees off during the Orient China Ladies Open over the weekend in Xiamen. Feng, the first
Chinese player to earn exempt status on the LPFA tour, hopes to make an impact on the international stage in 2008. She finished tied for ninth with a 5-under par 355
(72-72-70-71-70) at the LPGA Final Qualifying School at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida, earlier this month, earning her exempt status on the 2008 LPGA
Tour, meaning she will be able to play in as many as 25 tournaments throughout the year. She is the first woman from China to earn such status on the LPGA. Shan Shan
will play in her first LPGA Tournament in February.

2007 July Guangzhou Sports Officials Visit Seattle
06th July 2007 Friday (Seattle) Mr. Hu Shu Sen, President & Senior Coach, Guangzhou Sports Training and Technical College led a delegation of Guangzhou
Officials (including five Guangzhou Sports School Principals) to the USA to meet with US Officials and set up closer relationships on sports education.
In Seattle the delegation visited Redmond High School to view the Athletic Facilities and meet with High School Coaches. RHS Football and Track Coach,
Mike Pluschke, took the delegation on a tour of the RHS Athletic Facilities. The delegation also viewed practice sessions by the Softball Team and Drill Team.
The delegation visited the University of Washington to view the Athletic Facilities. Assist Softball Coach, Brandi Gordon, led the delegation on a tour of
the UW Athletic Facilities. The Guangzhou Delegation also met with Washington Cultural Exchange Officials discussing continued cooperation for Sino/Washington
State Sports Exchanges. Their visit to Seattle and Meetings were extremely successful.
Our Friends from Guangzhou departed Seattle for New York City for more meetings after enjoying the friendship and hospitality of WCE and Seattle. In New York
the Guangzhou Delegation will visit Princeton University to discuss cultural exchange and sports education with the University and the possibility of setting up a closer
relationship on sports education.

2006 September Guangzhou Sports Officials Visit Seattle
22nd Sept 2006 Friday (Seattle) Ten Guangzhou Sports Officials arrived in Seattle today. Mike Ritch (WCE President), Orin Richburg (WCE Board &
USA Olympic Coach), Mike Johnson (WCE Traveler, Track & Field Coach & Golf Instructor), and Jim & Darlene Zatloukal met the delegation. The Guangzhou
Sports Delegation was in the USA to meet with Officials from USA Track & Field, United States Golf Association, United States Tennis Association, and
to visit Sports Venues and gather information to improve Sports Facilities in Guangdong Province. Along with visiting Sports Associations the Guangzhou
Sports Officials also visited Universities meeting with Coaches and Athletic Directors as well as viewing the University’s Sports Facilities. Their visit
to Seattle and Meetings were extremely successful. Also while enjoying a Chinese Lunch at the Sentosa Asian Restaurant and Bakery, the delegation met the
Restaurant Manager who was born in Guangzhou and is a former 100 meter sprinter (small world). (Pictures are posted below!!!)
23rd Sept 2006 Saturday (Seattle) Our Friends from Guangzhou departed Seattle for New York City today for more meetings after enjoying the friendship and
hospitality of WCE and Seattle.
