12/30/2019 Monday (2:30 AM next day, 11:30 AM Seattle time) Jessica Chen (our wonderful China Tour Manager) has emailed to say that our Delegation has arrived safely in Guangzhou! Guides Eva and Peter met the group. They have gathered their luggage and are traveling by bus to The China Hotel where they will check in and get a well-deserved night's rest. Tomorrow morning after an outstanding buffet breakfast the group will visit Guangzhou No. 3 School and have fun with the students! They are looking forward to the exciting visit!

12/31/2019 Tuesday (1:00 AM next day, 9:00 AM Seattle time) We have received our daily update from our wonderful guide Peter! "We had a very full and happy day today! In the morning we visited Guangzhou No. 3 Middle School. We toured around the campus and learned the history of the school. Then we visited the shadow puppet room of the school to learn about folk art. Last but not least, we had a Chinese paper cutting lesson together with our Chinese friends. We learned from the teacher how to use traditional Chinese tools to cut , which means good luck and happiness in Chinese. With the help of the Chinese students, we all did a good job. Time flies quickly. We had to say goodbye to our friends before we realized it. For lunch, we've tried our first Chinese meal -- buffet hot pot. Each of us got a pot with soup and cooked our own food. The ingredients are on a buffet and there were lots of foods to choose and eat. It was great fun to eat this way. We all liked it. In the afternoon, we went to visit the Guangzhou Sports Polytechnic School. We visited the campus and watched the training of the Chinese students and athletes. They really work hard and impressed us a lot. We also played basketball with the players and the friendship match went on well as the friendship will go on. It was really fun! We also had dinner together with the students of the sports college. We talked and shared our lives. We had a great time! Tomorrow, we will tour around the city with local students from Guangzhou No. 3 Middle School. It was really a nice day today and we are looking forward to touring with the students tomorrow!"

One of the Moms traveling with our WCE Softball Delegation emailed a few more photos:

1/1/2020 Wednesday (2:15 AM next day, 10:15 AM Seattle time) We have received another update from Peter. "Happy new year! We had a splendid day today. In the morning, we traveled with the local students. We talked a lot and communicated very well. We had already become good friends before we had to say goodbye. First we went to visit the Five Ram Statue and then the Guangzhou Museum. We learned even more about Guangzhou after this visit. Then came a highlight, shopping time! We went to the Up-and-Down Nine Pedestrian Street and shopped with local students' help. It is interesting. Then we had another delicious lunch at the Lianxianglou Restaurant. The Cantonese dishes were really impressive. Then we had to say goodbye to our local friends and we begin to miss them already! In the afternoon, we attended the softball clinic with Chinese players. We practiced together and enjoyed ourselves very much! We made more friends through our practice together. For dinner, we had another impressive Cantonese dinner. What a day! Tomorrow, we will visit Yiyuan Primary School and have our first softball match in the afternoon. Can't wait to do that!"

One of the Chinese Coaches, who has become good friends with all of our WCE Softball Coaches over the years, was instrumental in organizing two softball clinics in Guangzhou for our delegation to host. She is working hard to promote Softball in China. Below are a couple of photos of our WCE Softball Delegation staff with Coach Xu.

In the morning, we visited Yiyuan Primary School. The students are so cute and we really had a good time having class and playing together with them! We also coached the school baseball/softball team students on how to play softball. We really had a great time together! For lunch, we had a dumpling feast. We tried different kinds of dumplings and we all liked them. In the afternoon, we played softball games with the Guangdong Team. Our teams had a good time with the Guangdong Teams. They are really good, and their pitching and batting really impressed us. We had a good time together. For dinner, we had something special — dim sum and it is so delicious! It was served in small but nice pieces and we tried tens of different kinds of dim-sum. It's one of the things you must try in China!

Tomorrow, we will play more softball games with Guangdong Team and the Nanfang Team. We will also have a Pearl River Boat Cruise. We are looking forward to both!"

1/4/2020 Saturday (12:30 AM next day, 8:30 AM Seattle time) Today was a travel day for our WCE Softball Delegation. They flew from Guangzhou to Beijing. Peter, our wonderful guide from Guangzhou, also traveled with the delegation to Beijing. He will tour with the delegation every day while in Beijing. There will also be a local guide from Beijing with the delegation each day.

Here is Peter's daily update from today. "We had a good day today. First thing in the morning, we practiced Tai Chi. We followed the master to do lots of movements and enjoyed the knowledge and energy of the Tai Chi class. All the movements and skills are so cool and it actually helps with health a lot. We not only learned how to do Tai Chi but we also learned the culture and manners in Chinese Martial Arts. It was really special and interesting to experience Kongfu in the Kongfu kingdom. Then we took our flight from Guangzhou to Beijing. For dinner, we had the famous Peking duck! We wrapped the roast duck together with pancake, shallot and cucumber. It was so so delicious and we ate a lot! The other dishes served together were also very good. Tomorrow, we will visit Tian An Men Square and the Temple of Heaven!"

1/5/2020 Sunday (1:30 AM next day, 9:30 AM Seattle time) We have received our daily update from our terrific guide Peter! "We had a very full, rich and wonderful day today. In the morning, we went to the largest square in the world ‐ the Tian An Men Square. The buildings there are all grand and we finally see what the "heart of China" looks like. All the architecture there is worth seeing and enjoying and we know for sure what "people mountain people sea" means. We also visit the World Cultural Heritage Site – the Forbidden City. This is really a royal trip. It is educational and enjoyable to see the place where emperors once lived. The buildings inside are really impressive. In the afternoon, we went to visit the Temple of Heaven. It was another Chinese culture time. The buildings inside are real Chinese style and the scenery is so beautiful. In the evening, we went to watch an Acrobatics Show. It is so amazing! All the movements and activities they perform are challenging and exciting for people to see. We all loved that! Tomorrow, we will conquer the Great Wall! We are really excited about that!"

Chairman Mao said "He who never climbs the Great Wall can't be called a true hero", and we are all heroes today! The Great Wall is very steep and hard to climb but we all tried our best to get to where we can get. We've conquered the Great Wall! This is a really interesting and healthy trip to visit the Great Wall. In the afternoon, we visited the Walk of the Spirits of the Ming Tomb. The architecture there is great and grand. We had a good time there, and we learned more history and stories about the past dynasties. Then came another highlight for everyone. We went to Xiushui Market (Silk Street Market) for shopping. We looked for what we were interested in and bargained with the salesmen. We really found some cool stuff there and we really liked the experience there. For supper, we went for pizza! It is the same as and a little different from home. We and our stomach all had a good time. Tomorrow, we will visit the Summer Palace and then head home.
